Aside from shopping in eclectic gift shops, browsing through art galleries and diving head first into over 30 activities in Clarens, the one thing that’ll get you closer to the locals and the energy that makes this village special, is to indulge in a plethora of cuisines in over 25 restaurants.
Considering the amount of art on display in Art Avenue you’ll quickly understand why Clarens is considered an artist’s haven. Looking around at the beauty of this valley speaks volumes for the inspiration that has produced art in its very different forms lining the many galleries in this avenue.
But, let’s get back to a little info on just a few of the many eateries in Clarens, and if a holiday in a stunning 100 year old village doesn’t grab you enough (though it should!), then your taste buds will be doing a jig once you start browsing through menus ahead of your visit!
This list is by no means one that focuses on only the best, because they’re all the best!
You’ll be delighted to hear that vegans and vegetarians haven’t been left out in the cold in Clarens! There are at least three restaurants that cater for vegetarians and vegans, among them are Addos Fine Dining, Sugar and Cinnamon (they also have gluten free options on the menu), Clarens Brewery, The Courtyard Bakery and Café…need I say more!
Among the restaurants in Clarens who boast Certificates of excellence you’ll find more than a few, including Clementines Restaurant and Bar earning the Certificate of excellence from 2015 -2019, with Clarens Brewery right up there too.
The Courtyard Bakery and Café has also been awarded the Certificate of Excellence from 2018 to 2019…and counting! In the main, many of the restaurants are wheelchair friendly and also make sure there are high chairs for the little ones.
The outdoor seating is as close as you could get to an Italian piazza, and while you’ll find superb pastas and pizzas here, there’s a lot of South African cuisine involved here too. We still want to feel at home despite the fact that most restaurants also serve European cuisine and this is definitely where Europe, Italy and Africa meet.
As for accommodation in Clarens, you’d be matching your accommodation with the same level of excellence as you’d get out of the restaurants by booking your spot at Clarens Eddies Self Catering or B&B.
